A MILDURA woman who fleeced more than $35,000 from the Australian Taxation Office by making false GST claims has narrowly avoided being sent to jail.

The Mildura Magistrates' Court heard 24-year-old Lara Scarrott was awarded $36,155 in GST refunds by the ATO in late 2021 and early 2022 having claimed expenses to a hairdressing business which would have amounted to $360,000 in real terms.
