NEW restrictions relating to pet cats in the Rural City of Swan Hill municipal area are set to come into force from January 1.

The updated rules include a 24-hour cat containment requirement that SHRCC's director of development and planning Michelle Grainger said was aimed at protecting family pets and native wildlife.
