THE opening of this year's Mildura Show has been postponed until Friday by heavy rain.
Mildura has recorded more than 50mm since 11pm on Wednesday night, with further rain expected throughout the day.
Show co-ordinator Jo Rodda said the Mildura Show Society made the decision to delay the event's start due to safety concerns.
"It's not safe for horses and rides to operate in the rain," she said.
Ms Rodda stated all scheduled horse events, attractions and entertainment would be transferred to tomorrow, and rides would begin to operate as normal once the show commenced.
Tomorrow is expected to be partly cloudy, reaching a top of 20 degrees, and Saturday is expected to be cloudy, reaching a top of 19 degrees.
No rain is expected tomorrow, but there is a five per cent chance of rain on Saturday.
