Council bin collection changes

MILDURA Council's kerbside bin collections will be slightly different for residents whose collections fall on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Kerbside rubbish, recycling and organics collection will instead take place on Saturday, December 26 and and Saturday, January 2, respectively.

Affected residents should put their bins out the night before collection.

Residents have been encouraged to sort their waste correctly over the festive period to avoid any potential issues with excess waste.

Food scraps should be disposed in green bins, while wrapping paper can only be recycled if it passes the scrunch test.

Simple paper wrap can be recycled, however foil or glitter decorated paper cannot and should be placed in the red landfill/rubbish bin.

Before recycling, residents have been encouraged to remove any sticky tape and decorations such as ribbons and bows, as they cannot be recycled.

Cardboard and polystyrene from Christmas presents can also be taken to the Mildura Landfill for free.

The Mildura Landfill will also operate under modified hours during the festive period: Christmas Day, closed; December 26, 27 and 28, 9.30am to 4.45pm; Tuesday, December 29, 30 and 31, 8.15am to 4.45pm; New Year's Day, closed; January 2 and 3, 9.30am to 4.45pm.
